Step-By-Step Mold making tutorial for clay art ( Sculpture ).

Here are the steps that are followed to create a mold of plaster.

Things that are required :

1. Clay

2. Plaster

3. Jute fiber

4. Kerosene oil

5. Brush

Procedure:

First of all the clay model has to be prepared and a clay wall has to be built around the model so that it can hold the plaster without leaking.

Once it is ready then a layer of kerosene oil is brushed over the model so that it becomes easy to extract the model from the mold. Making sure that the oil reaches every corner.

Then a fine quality of plaster is mixed with water in a container.

Then a thin layer of the mixture is placed over the model. Then air is blown so that the mixture reaches every corner of the model and no air bubble is present.

Then a thick layer of the fine plaster is placed on the model. Then normal plaster is used for the rest of the process for the economic purpose.

The jute fibers are loosely rolled into circular shapes. Even Gauze can be used in place of jute fibers.

These fiber rolls are soaked in the plaster and placed over the model. This gives rigidity to the mold and prevents it from breaking.

Finally, it is left to dry for a day or two. Once it dries then the mold is removed from the clay. This is done by soaking the clay with water and washing away the clay model from the plaster. Once the clay is removed we are left with the mold.

This way both the side mold can be prepared and used for making clay sculptures again and again.
